Activities Description

CHRISTIAN SERVICE

This category of activities involves reaching out to serve others both within and outside our parish.  There are many different opportunities available, including delivery of goods or services, personal assistance, and prayer.

CHURCH UPKEEP

This involves work to maintain our church.  These opportunities vary from once a month vacuuming of the altar, sacristy and music room to volunteering to “tidy the church” once a year.  Some jobs can be done from home such as washing and ironing the altar linens or “follower” cleaning and others require you to spend some time in the church such as hymnal repairs and replacing the Breaking Bread issues each year.

 COMPUTER WORK

If you are computer savvy we have numerous jobs for you to choose from.  We need DBA/Systems Analysts, Documentation Specialist/Technical Writers, as well as other hardware and software “gurus” to keep the parish computers running.  Most of our computers rely on Windows system software.

 COORDINATOR

There are plenty of jobs for those parishioners at home who are able to make phone calls. The musicians and Children’s Liturgy of the Word volunteers, as well as many other groups, need weekly and monthly reminder calls and scheduling work done.

 COUNCILS & COMMITTEES

St. Elizabeth of Hungary parish has a number of committees, and many are in need of people with specific skills, experience and interests.

 ENVIRONMENT & ART

If you are artistic please sign up here.  We are always looking for people to take care of how the church looks inside and out. If you like caring for plants inside or out, if you know how to sew, or if you just know how to make a space look beautiful and work well, we might have the perfect job for you.

 HOSPITALITY

Almost every week of the year “coffee and donuts” are served after the 9:30am Mass on Sundays. This doesn’t happen unless volunteers like you serve occasionally, or on a regular basis.  We also need people to help us offer hospitality to families having funerals at St. Elizabeth’s.

 LIBRARY

Library volunteers are needed to keep track of all of the items in our parish’s library, in addition to cataloguing all of the new books and other materials added to our collection.

 LITURGY-RELATED

There are many ways to participate more fully in the liturgical life of our parish.  There is a need for parishioners to serve as Processional Cross Bearers, Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound, Children’s Liturgy of the Word Leaders and Shepherds, and in many other ways.  If you sing or play an instrument please look here for opportunities that match your talents.  We are always looking for musicians of all ages to enrich the worship at St. Elizabeth’s.

  ODD JOBS

For those who are willing to share their time and are not picky as to the type of work, there are always “odd jobs” to be done.  Every week the bulletin needs to be delivered to the church and old bulletins picked up.  We need parishioners to do the “final rounds” of the buildings and facilitate the collection and recycling of the parish’s waste paper.  Nimble fingers and strong backs are always needed for these and other practical tasks.

 OFFICE SUPPORT

On occasion, we need a few extra hands in the office.  The work varies from photocopying and mailing preparation to advertising and editing.

 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Each year we need a few hundred catechists to educate our children in what it means to be Catholic.  If you like to work with children and are willing to share your faith, this is a very important role.

 SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

There are several teams of parishioners who help prepare people for marriage, the baptism of their children, or initiation into the Catholic Church.

 SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

If you are a “social” person and are interested in planning events to help build community within the parish, the Social Activities Committee needs you.

 TRADESMAN/HANDYMAN

Are you a skilled tradesman or handyman?  If so, the parish could use some help.  Currently we are looking for someone to build shelving for the church’s storage areas, install a sink in the sacristy and refinish some of the furniture used inside the church.
